The House is considering the use of an arcane parliamentary procedure called the “Slaughter Rule” that if passed will “Deem the Senate Healthcare Bill as passed by the House”; allowing the House to pass the Senate Healthcare Bill without the required majority necessary for a conventional vote. It also allows a significant number of Progressive Democrats to return to their districts and proclaim they did not vote for the Senate Healthcare Bill. As outrageous as this move appears, it is apparently legitimate, and parliamentary 'fair play'.
However, this maneuver begs the larger question, “Why do we have rules and procedures requiring a super-majority if laws can be passed with such parliamentary trickery?” The answer is frightening, and exposes a naked truth America needs to face – our Constitution, and our Democracy, are merely an illusion created by our leaders to keep us apathetic and subservient. With this power-play, they are telling us, "We can do what we want, and there's nothing you can do about it!" Considering this procedure for such a controversial and unpopular piece of legislation has cast the curtain aside, exposing the Great Illusion. A trip-wire has been crossed, and there is no reason to expect a return to business as usual now that this truth has been revealed. Now that the government has dropped it's pretenses and showed it's real power and intent, there's no longer a need for smoke and mirrors. And while the House may yet find the votes needed to pass this legislation, the fact that they have this ominous power has been revealed to the American people.
If any hope remains, it lies in a dedicated resolve within American society to restore our Constitutional government. If the American people demand this, it can be done. We have forced the government's hand, and in doing so, they have forced ours. But the task will not be easy. Like a burglar caught in the act, they are not likely to go quietly into the night. Given what's at stake, it's not reasonable to expect mass resignations or calls for new elections. It's more likely the Obama Administration and the Progressives will hasten their efforts to 'radically transform America'. Meanwhile, as the American people step up and demand restoration, the government will lash out with all the power of it's agencies and enforcement tentacles. Efforts to restore Constitutional Law will not be easy. But if history has taught us anything, the alternative to standing up to tyranny will only be worse pain and suffering, both for our generation, and our children's.
